About the Materials

Recycled Canvases

Paines+Ridge+Profile.jpg

Whenever available, recycled canvases with stapled sides are used to lend a hand with keeping trash out of landfills. This means that there may be imperfections on the surface of the paintings. As in life, imperfections add character, texture and uniqueness. We hope you will appreciate the recycling aspect and the effort made to include flaws in the artwork.

The edges of the canvas are carefully painted to match the colors of the artwork and to cover the staples, in case you want to hang a painting as is. Not all paintings are framed to provide a wider price range, suit different interior decoration styles, and allow you to choose a frame in your taste.

Water Soluble Oils

Orange Tulips by Ana del Castillo.jpg

It is a joy to work with water soluble oils that don’t contain the harsh toxins found in traditional oils, and to do away with the noxious fumes of turpentine needed as paint thinner, all of which ultimately end up in our environment. Also, avoiding the toxic fumes and skin contact with chemicals and their insidious side effects, extends an artist capacity to paint for many years.

The pigments of water soluble oils are just as intense as traditional oils, and the colors are just as vibrant allowing the same ability to create rich layers and texture. In addition, because of the water solubility, it is easier to create transparent glazes and water-washed underpaintings, and the aging process is the same - moreover, water soluble oils have been formulated to prevent yellowing.
